Questions & answers

Everything you'd want to know before you install

How the sync actually behaves, what carries over from Reverb, and where the limits are. No surprises after you connect.

Getting started

What you need before you install, and how long setup actually takes.

What do I need to use SyncGear?

A Shopify store and a Reverb.com seller account. That's it — there's nothing to install on the Reverb side, and no developer setup. SyncGear installs from the Shopify App Store and runs inside your Shopify admin.

How do I connect my Reverb account?

You create a Personal Access Token in your Reverb account settings at reverb.com/my/api_settings, enable the public, read_listings, write_listings, read_orders, write_orders, and read_profile scopes, then paste the token into SyncGear's Settings page. There's a short video walkthrough if you'd rather follow along.

How long does setup take?

Connecting Reverb takes about two minutes. After that, SyncGear fetches your live listings so you can pick which ones to bring into Shopify. Importing is as fast as your catalog is large — a few dozen listings land in a couple of minutes.

Do I have to import my whole catalog?

No. You choose which listings to import, and you can do it in batches or all at once. Nothing is created in Shopify until you say so.

Can I try it before paying?

Yes. The Free plan includes 25 one-time product imports and requires no credit card. It's enough to import a real slice of your catalog and see how the sync behaves before you commit to a paid plan.

Can I disconnect Reverb later?

Any time, from the Settings page. Disconnecting deletes your encrypted token from our database. Products you already imported stay in your Shopify store — they're yours, and removing SyncGear doesn't touch them.

How the sync works

You pick which platform is your source of truth. Everything else follows from that choice.

Does SyncGear sync one way or both ways?

Both — you decide which. During setup you pick a source of truth, and you can change it later in Settings. With Reverb as your source of truth, you import Reverb listings into Shopify and Shopify sales end the matching Reverb listing. With Shopify as your source of truth, you can also push products, inventory, and edits from Shopify out to Reverb, and Reverb sales create matching orders in your Shopify store.

What happens when an item sells on Shopify?

SyncGear ends the matching Reverb listing so the same instrument isn't sitting for sale in two places. This works with either platform as your source of truth, it's on by default, and it never costs you a credit.

What happens when an item sells on Reverb?

SyncGear checks Reverb for new sales every ten minutes and updates Shopify to match. With Reverb as your source of truth, the matching Shopify product is removed. With Shopify as your source of truth, a paid Shopify order is created so the sale shows up in your reporting and inventory. Each Reverb sale synced this way uses one order credit.

How fast is the sync?

Shopify sales are handled the moment they happen, through a Shopify webhook. Reverb sales are picked up on a ten-minute cycle, and new Reverb listings are checked for every few minutes when auto-import is on.

Do I have to import new Reverb listings by hand every time?

Not on a paid plan. Turn on auto-import and SyncGear watches your Reverb account for new listings and brings them into Shopify on its own, as long as you have import credits available. On the Free plan, importing is manual.

Can I push products from Shopify to Reverb?

Yes, when Shopify is your source of truth. The Push to Reverb page turns your Shopify products into live Reverb listings, and each push uses one import credit. After that, inventory changes and product edits made in Shopify flow out to those Reverb listings automatically.

If I edit a listing on Reverb, does Shopify update?

No. An imported product is a real Shopify product — an independent copy, not a mirror. Later changes on Reverb don't overwrite it, which means you're free to write Shopify-specific titles, pricing, and copy without SyncGear undoing your work. If you do want the newest Reverb data, use "Make re-importable" on the Import page to pull the listing fresh.

If I edit a product on Shopify, does Reverb update?

For listings you created with Push to Reverb, yes — price, title, description, SKU, and UPC are sent over, as long as Shopify is your source of truth and product-edit sync is enabled. Products you imported from Reverb keep inventory sync and auto-end, but their edits are not pushed back, since the Shopify copy is often intentionally different (a price that includes shipping, for example). Images are not synced in both directions.

What happens when a linked product goes out of stock in Shopify?

This applies when Shopify is your source of truth. Reverb can't keep a live listing at zero quantity, so when a linked product hits zero, SyncGear ends the Reverb listing. It's a setting you can turn off if you'd rather handle it yourself.

What if I end or delete a Reverb listing myself?

SyncGear detects sales, not manual removals. If you end or delete a Reverb listing without a sale, the Shopify product stays put and you'll want to remove it yourself.

Plans and credits

What a credit is, what uses one, and what happens when you run out.

What is an import credit?

One credit per listing moved, in either direction. Importing a Reverb listing into Shopify costs one credit. Pushing a Shopify product out to Reverb costs one credit. If an import or push fails, the credit is returned to you.

What is an order credit?

One credit each time a Reverb sale is synced into Shopify — either removing the sold product or creating the matching Shopify order, depending on your source of truth. Ending a Reverb listing after a Shopify sale does not use an order credit.

What does the Free plan include?

25 one-time import credits, which you can spend importing from Reverb or pushing to Reverb. Auto-end still works, so a Shopify sale will end the matching Reverb listing. Free does not include order credits, so Reverb sales won't sync back into Shopify, and auto-import is a paid feature.

Do unused credits roll over?

No. Credits reset to your plan's limits at the start of each billing period, and anything unused doesn't carry forward.

What happens if I run out of credits?

Out of import credits, imports and pushes pause and auto-import stops — new Reverb listings aren't queued up, but you can import them manually once credits are back. Out of order credits, Reverb sales stop syncing into Shopify, which means a sold item could stay listed on Shopify, so it's worth upgrading before you get close. Credits refresh at your next billing period, or immediately when you upgrade.

Is annual billing cheaper?

Yes — annual plans are priced about 20% below paying month to month, and every paid plan includes future updates.

Can I change plans or cancel?

Any time, from the Change Plan page inside the app. Billing is handled by Shopify and appears on your regular Shopify invoice. If you move down to the Free plan, your paid features stay active through the end of the period you already paid for.

Products and pricing details

Exactly what carries over from a Reverb listing, and what you control.

What gets imported from a Reverb listing?

Title, description, price, images, condition, make, model, year, and finish. In Settings you choose which of these to bring across — you can skip Reverb's pricing or descriptions and keep your own, for instance.

Are imported products published right away?

Your call. Publish imports straight to your storefront, or bring them in as drafts so you can review and stage them before they go live.

Which Reverb conditions are supported?

All of them: Brand New, B-Stock, Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, and Poor. The condition is carried into the product description on Shopify.

Can I roll shipping into the Shopify price?

Yes. Turn on "Include shipping in price" and SyncGear adds the US Continental shipping rate to the listing price — a $500 item with $50 shipping becomes $550 on Shopify. It's the clean way to offer free shipping on your own store without eating the cost. Shipping is only added when its currency matches the listing's.

Does SyncGear work with non-USD stores?

Yes, as long as the currencies line up. SyncGear imports listings whose currency matches your Shopify store's currency and skips ones that don't, rather than guessing at a conversion and quietly getting your prices wrong.

Security and support

How your credentials are handled, and how to reach a human.

Is my Reverb API token safe?

Your Personal Access Token is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it's ever written to the database, and the encryption key is stored separately. The raw token is never kept. You can revoke it from Reverb or disconnect from SyncGear at any time.

Who has access to my store data?

Only SyncGear, and only to do the syncing you've asked for. Your data isn't sold or shared with third parties — it moves between your Shopify store and the Reverb API, and nowhere else.

What if something goes wrong?

Every import, sync, and order event is written to an activity log with timestamps, so you can see exactly what SyncGear did and when. If the log doesn't explain it, email support@syncgear.io and a real person will get back to you.
